Hystelica is a nonprofit research organisation advancing scientific understanding of how psychedelics affect women’s biology, health and wellbeing. Founded in 2022 by Dr Grace Blest-Hopley, Hystelica works to address the historic lack of female-specific data within psychedelic research and ensure that women’s needs are represented in the future development and use of psychedelic therapies.

Working with academic and research partners, Hystelica conducts clinical and observational research examining how factors such as the menstrual cycle, hormonal contraception and menopause may influence women’s experiences and outcomes with psychedelics. Its work aims to identify potential female-specific therapeutic applications, improve the design of future clinical trials and support the development of evidence-based recommendations for safer and more effective psychedelic use.

Alongside its research, Hystelica advocates for greater female inclusion in psychedelic science and provides education, events and resources exploring the relationship between women’s biology, mental health and psychedelic medicine.

This is supported by Hystelica’s current research with King’s College London, including studies on microdosing and menopausal symptoms and the effects of women’s hormonal cycles on psychedelic experiences.
